RAMP UP (Resources Available for Military Personnel) Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato announces program RAMP UP (Resources Available for Military Personnel) to increase the number of veterans taking advantage of Weatherization programs throughout Allegheny County. This program in partnership with local veteran serving agencies will assist veterans seeking to grow their owned businesses, provide them help in securing job training and employment opportunities and link them to other vital resources here in Allegheny County. RAMP UP will provide workshops and seminars throughout Allegheny County to give veterans & military personal the opportunity to learn how to become a certified HVAC and Weatherization contractor, how to apply to be a certified weatherization auditor or worker, provide information on how to qualify for a grant to have their home weatherized and learn about other programs specifically designed to assist in making sure veterans receive proper services. Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the state of Pennsylvania received a record $240 million in weatherization dollars this year. Allegheny County is designated to receive more than $20 million dollars in federal dollars to provide weatherization services throughout the county. The RAMP UP programs goal is to increase the number of veterans who would like to participate in the contracting, employment and social services activities that coming through weatherization programs statewide. The workshops will discuss how you can become a weatherization auditor or installer, what are the job requirements and contractors seeking employees now and how to take this training for free of charge.
